Westlake Weekly: October 29 – November 4, 2026

Halloween weekend gives way to a quieter, more reflective start to November around West Lake Hills, and this week holds both moods beautifully. Costumes and candy on Saturday, community altars and live music on Sunday, a film festival all week, and a couple of gentle midweek outings to round it out. Here is what is happening near you over the next seven days.

Events

Austin Film Festival — Oct 29–Nov 5

The 33rd Austin Film Festival opens this week, running through November 5 across downtown and central Austin venues, with its Writers Conference running October 29 through November 1. Known for putting writers at the center of the festival, it pairs more than 150 premieres with panels, filmmaker Q&As, and conference sessions, opening with Jesse Eisenberg's The Debut. An $85 Film Pass covers screenings across all eight days, making it easy to dip in for one film or plan a full festival weekend.

Hill Country Galleria Halloween Treat Trail — Sat Oct 31, 11 AM–2 PM

Right here in Bee Cave, the Hill Country Galleria hosts its annual Halloween Treat Trail on Saturday morning, starting at Central Plaza where kids pick up a pumpkin bag before trick-or-treating along the open-air shopping strip. More than 80 shops take part, so it is a relaxed, family-friendly way to celebrate before the evening's neighborhood trick-or-treating. Arrive close to 11 AM, since bags and candy are available only while supplies last.

The Austin Halloween Parade: The Gravest Show on Earth — Sat Oct 31, 7:30–11:30 PM

On Halloween night, Pan American Neighborhood Park hosts a free, theatrical parade with a circus-of-the-supernatural theme, inviting costumed revelers to join the procession rather than just watch it. Follow the calliope, keep an eye out for the Skelephant, and expect clowns, creatures, and performers along the route. It is one of Austin's most distinctive Halloween traditions, and it costs nothing to join.

Día de los Muertos at Waterloo Greenway — Sun Nov 1, 4–8 PM

Waterloo Park's free Día de los Muertos celebration at Moody Amphitheater honors loved ones through community altars, including a main ofrenda where visitors may contribute photos and mementos, and a special pet altar. The evening adds mariachi, Danza Azteca, and ballet folklórico performances, cumbia dance lessons, face painting, a Mercado y Más artisan market, and local food. The altars remain on display through November 2, with a Día de los Muertos yoga and sound session that evening.
